Spring fashion in Amsterdam

As you can probably see on my Instagram, I’m in Amsterdam for the week! I’m having a blast being here with all of the canals, delicious food, and different places to explore!! I noticed some MAJOR trends for Spring Amsterdam fashion that I wanted to share. These trends are some that I saw throughout Amsterdam.

1. Striped pants: I went into so many stores, including H&M, Zara, Pull and Bear, Urban Outfitters, and many more, and I saw a continuous trend of stripes. There are some pants where they just have bright colored stripes as the pattern of the pants. Another stripe trend seen in jeans specially is the stripe down the side. I’ve seen this style in pretty much any store that I went in. One more pretty common trend involving stripes was the stripe down the side on joggers! This style is more of a casual, laid back or sporty style that people here usually pair with Adidas sneakers.

2. Anything with words: This is a pretty general trend topic, but there are words on clothes pretty much everywhere! Whether it’s a graphics tee with a basic phrase or word, or a tee shirt with repeating a word. They are literally everywhere. There’s also jackets, dresses and pants with words going down the side (trying to mix two trends into one.) There are even sneakers with phrases on the laces!

3. Plaid: Plaid has become big in dresses and sets. In stores like Bershka and Urban Outfitters, they have a lot of mini dresses and pant sets that are the yellow and black Plaid. Urban Outfitters recent partnership with I. AM. GIA has exposed them to this plethora of Plaid!

4. topstitched Denim: there are always new trends in denim that have been seen through the seasons. While shopping, I’ve noticed a huge percentage of denim in Amsterdam have topstiching. For anyone who doesn’t know what that is (like me before shopping in Amsterdam), it’s when the stitching on the denim (which is usually blended into the denim by using the same colored thread) is now noticeable by making the thread color a more brighter color to contrast the denim. This trend is seen in everything denim, from the jackets to the tops to the pants!

5.  Combat boots and sneakers: Shoes are a HUGE thing in Amsterdam because it’s all about comfort and function and less about the fashion of it. With that being said, people in Amsterdam wear one of two kinds of shoes: boots or sneakers. The boots don’t have a big heal, making it easy to walk in. I’ve noticed a lot of people wearing combat style boots because they are comfortable and easy to walk in. As stores pick up on that, they try to make the functional boot more fashionable by making the laces and the grommets bigger or adding some stud detailing. In the spring, sneakers are a popular, functional shoe that is worn. To make these simple walking shoes more fashionable, there has been a huge trend of adding a platform onto the bottom of the shoe. Another trend that I noticed in a lot of European type shoes is to make the sneaker look glossy or to add bright colors to it.
