5 Ways You Can Make an Impact for Earth Month

With Earth Month here already (wow it’s April), it’s time to think about how we can be stylish make Mother Earth happy. A lot of what we can do to be sustainable is connected to our consumption habits. Here are 5 things you can do this month to help the Earth be a little but greener for everyone:

Shop Ethical and Sustainable Brands

With sustainability reaching a top concern to the fashion industry, there are some brands making a difference. Some of my favorite brands include Reformation, AllBirds, ShopWeWoreWhat, Afends, Frankie Collective and some others. Why put your money towards brands who are doing more harm than good?

Whatever you do, do NOT shop at Shein or Zaful!

Shein has become one of the most popular fashion brands among teenagers for its almost too affordable prices. It is most often used for party attire since it is also not the finest quality. If you are going to spend $20 on a top, why not just borrow a top from a friend instead? That would also save time and energy. If you are going to spend $200 on a Zaful haul, why not spend that money on finer quality at another store instead?

Watch what you are spending…

Obviously that is easier said than done (trust me, I get tempted by a cute dress as much as the next girl). It’s okay to shop, but make your purchases wisely. You don’t need to get the same top in four different colors! When I shop, I tend to be attracted to similar clothes that I already have in my closet, but I never know that I have it until I look. With Spring coming up, make sure you know what’s in your closets before you go out and buy more (even if that means a big closet clean out!).

Buy online vs in store

Okay hear me out. You may be thinking, “Why should I buy online if it’s just going to take me longer to get it and I can’t have a whole try on session in the dressing room. That’s half the fun of shopping!”

I know, trust me! But, the good thing about online shopping is that you don’t make impulse buys. Impulse buys are dangerous because you end up spending way more than anticipated. Online shopping can help to avoid unnecessary spending.

Shop in your closet

Last, and the easiest, is to spend $0! How? Look to the clothes you already have! Spring fashion doesn’t change too drastically throughout the years, so if you’ve been shopping sustainably, for the longevity, then you will have something in that closet. The most sustainable garment is the one you already own,

Another fun thing about shopping in your closet is that you can get rid of the clothes that you never wear or don’t need anymore. If you are anything like me where you have emotional attachments with your clothes, it can be really hard to give them away. But, you can make money by selling them on Poshmark or donate them.
