Denim denim everywhere at Kingpins NYC 2017

Kingpins is a denim trade show with many mills and brands coming together in NYC who bond over one thing; denim. This global denim show is full of fabrics, garments and trends which are presented to designers, product developers, and merchandisers from denim brands and retailers like American Eagle, A&F, Gap, J Crew, Madewell, Express, Target, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Free People. There are also trend forums and seminars, as well as discussions on sustainability and whats new in the fashion industry. The show happens twice a year in New York, City and there are also editions in Hong Kong, Amsterdam and China. This is how I get you the inside scoop on what's up next in denim!

This week, I was able to visit Kingpins to see what was new and what people were wearing in denim. I took photos of everything I saw including booths and the amazing outfits. I saw a lot of cool outfits, mostly all of them were denim, but there were some that stood out to me. I thought it was interesting to see everyone's style, where some people had regular blue or black skinny jeans on and tried to dress up with the top or they tried to dress up their outfits by having something funky on the bottom. There were a lot of people that had bottoms that were glanced up with paint, holes, patches, and even some fishnetters. Some people also incorporated denim by wearing a denim accessory such as a scarf or a choker. We all know that the flared jean style is trending right now, but I also think wearing a denim accessory is becoming a thing too!

Along with getting to see how everyone is dressed, I also got to photograph some of the denim mills were showing. While I was photographing pictures of each booth, I saw a lot of ripped holes in the jeans (big and small), different washes of denim, and even paint splattered on denim! I also saw a lot of cuffing at the foot, the fringed jeans hanging out and some where the front is shorter than the back. Some booths stood out to me for having such unique pieces. The jeans displayed at Cone White Oak had some cool wash treatments. They had some with white coloring and one had different shades of blue going across. Another booth I thought had interesting denim was R.E.A.L Garments. There were some cool washes on the jeans with paint surrounding the holes, and there was one matching high waisted denim jean and jacket that was a medium shade with yellow stripes which I thought was the coolest thing ever! I also got to speak to one of the people that work for R.E.A.L and they have a yoga brand that is all about women being comfortable, which I think is super important. Another booth I thought had some unique ideas was Lenzing. They had an amazing display of different indigo knits and woven in their sustainable denim collection which even the fabric looks comfy.

I'm glad I had the chance to experience Kingpins NYC because I get to meet so many interesting people. I'm looking forward to the next trade show!
