Things to do in NYC for the holidays

After a stressful week of finals, I am finally off for a month long winter break! Getting back in the grove means weekly blog posts. To kick off the winter break, I want to write about my favorite holiday activities to do in New York City. Whether you want to make a day out of it and do everything, or just do one or two, these six activities will definitely get you in the holiday spirit!

Rockefeller Center tree: Rockefeller center is the place to be for the holidays, and one of the most famous sights in Rockefeller center is the Christmas tree. It’s one of the biggest trees of 85 feet high and 13 tons. The star on top is made from 25,000 Swarovski crystals that totaled to be $1.5 million dollars, even though you probably won’t even see it blending in with all the lights on the tree!

Radio City Christmas Spectacular: The Radio City Christmas Spectacular show is definitely a must see for all ages. I’ve seen it every year since I was 4 and it’s one of my favorite shows. I love seeing the Rockettes in all their sparkly outfits and all the different parts of the show.

Ice skating at Rockefeller center: While you are at the tree, you mine as well stop by for some ice skating (if you can). Unfortunately, I embarrass myself every time I attempt to ice skate, so I’ve never ice skated in Rockefeller center.

Eataly: During the holiday season, Eataly has easily the prettiest Christmas decorations in its rooftop restaurant. It’s one of my favorite places to go to because of the amazing Italian food and the great atmosphere. People are always there, whether its downstairs in the market place or on the rooftop.

Bryant Park Christmas Market: Bryant Park, in general, is a great place to go to around the holidays because of the scenery. The fountain is usually frozen, so that makes for amazing pictures. They also put up a tree too (not as big as the Rockefeller tree of course), so if you want to see more beautifully lit Christmas trees, definitely go to Bryant Park. One of my favorite activities at Bryant Park is the Christmas Market. They are small booths set up with jewelry and other small accessories to give people for last minute Christmas gifts.

Macys at Herald Square: When shopping in the city during the holidays, the number one store that you have to go into is Macys at Herald Square. The window displays are always so over-the-top it’s hard to miss. Although it is always super crowded, especially during the holiday season, the decorations are so pretty inside when you walk inside!
