Castles in Bavaria

The very first place I went during my trip to Germany were the castles in Bavaria. My flight landed at 8 in the morning, so I had to stay up the whole entire day.  And, let me tell you, it's harder than you think! When we got to the train station, or the Bahnhof, we signed up for a castle tour of Bavaria, thinking it would be a couple hours...we thought wrong. We took the U-Bahn and slept all the way from Munich to Bavaria while the tour guide told us the history of the places we were going too (don't worry, he was chill about us sleeping). The train was so much nicer than NJ Transit or the NYC subway! Then we took a bus for a half hour to Bavaria.

We got there two hours later and we followed the group up a steep hill in the hot sun. We were able to go inside the castle and hear the history behind it. It was, of course, beautiful both outside and inside. It's hard to believe that only a few people lived in a house so large! It is on top of a huge mountain because King Ludwig wanted to look down on his people. Something I found interesting was that he had a two bedrooms; one where he would actually sleep and then one that he would move into at the crack of dawn. They said that he made his people wake up at dawn and come to that second room to praise King Ludwig. I would be so cranky in the morning if I were them!

When we got done with the King Ludwigs castle at around 4 in the afternoon, we walked down to have our first german dinner. We ate right by the lake, which was STUNNING. People sat by the lake and fed the swans or swam in it. My first German dinner was Fettuccine Alfredo (yeah I know, real German right?) and a nice liter of beer. After dinner, the sun was starting to set, so of course, it was picture time. We took pictures for like 15 minutes and started heading back towards the bus. It was a long day, but definitely a great adventure!
